LightSketch and Scythe and Sew: Tools for Rapid
Architectural Lighting Analysis

In this talk we present two integrated tools for lighting design and
analysis, LightSketch [1] and Scythe and Sew [2]. LightSketch is a
sketch-based
design tool for creating simple architectural models suitable for rendering
in RADIANCE. It contains a basic set of vocabulary of architectural
and
electric lighting elements for creating a small-scale design rapidly with a
pen. Scythe and Sew is an environment for viewing and managing both photo
and abstract simulation results. It provides a set of algebraic
operations
so that a user can compare differences between plots and perform basic
operations such as averaging. Together LightSketch and Scythe and Sew
provide an exploratory environment for rapidly creating and assessing simple
architectural models.
